Ioanna + Andrew — Rehearsal

Recently I had the privilege of being a groomsman in my friend Andrew's wedding. We had the rehearsal Saturday night followed by a wonderful dinner at Buca di Bepo in downtown Chicago. Andrew's family did a great job planning the dinner, the highlight of which was Ioanna's groom's cake for Andrew -- he was so surprised!

Stay tuned for pictures from their wedding!

Country Roads

Alicia organized a trip to Pendleton County, West Virginia through the Stritch School of Medicine's Global Health Fund program. Seven Stritch students, two nurses, and a doctor went to learn about rural health care and be exposed to a culture very different from ours in Chicago. I tagged along to document the experience. :]

The students shadowed physicians at the Pendleton Community Care Clinic, taught basic health and nutrition lessons to grade school students, held a health fair in the clinic parking lot, hosted a dinner and discussion for local community members, and spent a few days working with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity. We also met a wonderful family who opened a lot of doors for us in the community. They gave us an incredible tour of their 600-acre farm which has been in their family for eight(!) generations and introduced us to some of the local residents who shared their stories with us.

(The title of this post is, of course, a reference to the famous John Denver song.)

What a wonderful tertimony to the presence of hope in our world. We must return to the model of community that Jesus gave us. This group does that! The photos are absolutely beautiful and I would hang them in my home if they were available. God bless all of you in your endeavor to love everyone as God loves you.

Loyola University Chicago Graduation

On Friday Alicia and I attended her sister's graduation from Loyola University Chicago. Their commencement speaker was Dr. Philip Zimbardo, a psychology rock-star best known for his famous 1971 Stanford prison experiment.

Naturally, I took a few photos...

Congratulations, Courtney! :]

Jamie + Brent — Riverwalk Park Engagement Session

Brent is a med school classmate of Alicia's at Stritch, and a medium-format film (read "old school") photographer on the side. He and his fiancée, Jamie, know and appreciate quality photography, so we were flattered when he expressed interest in having us shoot their engagement photos! :]

We were originally supposed to do Jamie and Brent's e-session at IKEA. We had arranged to have the store to ourselves for over an hour before opening, but unfortunately IKEA had to cancel at the last minute. So on Brent's suggestion, we headed off to Riverwalk Park in Naperville instead.

It was Alicia's and my first time at Riverwalk, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that it is a veritable playground for photography! There are dozens of mini environments all within the park limits -- trees galore, nature trails, gazebos, bridges, playgrounds, a carillon (huge bell tower), a river (obviously), and even a beach! Needless to say, we had a lot of fun exploring.

Jamie and Brent -- we had the most wonderful time doing your e-session! We're so bummed that we can't make it to your wedding in San Luis Obispo later this month, but hopefully we can do a post-wedding session (at IKEA?) when you return. Enjoy the photos! :]
